Pumpkin Pickin'

This year we went to Lynd's Fruit Farm, on the recommendation of our friends, to go pumpkin picking.  We also went on a great hay ride where we got to pick a couple of free apples and enjoyed a beautiful fall day with family.

Our first stop was the pumpkin patch, which was a short walk from the parking lot.  Fiona and Caitlin both inspected a lot of pumpkins, but in the end I picked a pumpkin that I liked and Fiona was willing to tolerate (since she wanted either warty, bumpy pumpkins or very small ones).  She had fun bounding through the patch with Daddy.  He'd lift her up high while she jumped.

Caitlin's ready to go find a pumpkin.

Fiona liked this one.

Or maybe this one.

Bounding through the pumpkin patch (with Daddy's help).

Impromptu hug break.  Caitlin was very cute - when Fiona hugged her she said "hug..."

Once we dropped the pumpkins off in the vehicle, and grabbed a cookie, we made our way over to the hay ride.  About a minute or two into the ride the driver stopped and let everyone out to pick an apple off the trees.  The trees were pretty bare in this part of the orchard (thus the free apples), but we found some good Melrose apples.  We ate them on the rest of the ride around the orchard.

Cookie break, with her pumpkin flower.

Time for a wagon ride!

There must be something interesting up ahead.

Just the guy driving the tractor.

Teamwork!  Fiona could touch the apple, but couldn't quite pick it.

Ground level was much easier for her to pick.

Enjoying her apple on the wagon ride.

Caitlin really liked her apple too.

Then we stopped in the store, where they had a ton of Amish food, fruit and vegetables.  It was a little overwhelming, but I found a couple of good pie pumpkins, some cider, apples, and a couple of baked treats.  Sean and Fiona decided they wanted ice cream (even though it was in the 50s!) so we had a small dish and then headed out to grab some dinner with our friends, at Flip Side, before heading back home.
