Fiona and I did another Conservation Kids program last Thursday, while Ava stayed with Grama. This one was Caring for Caterpillars. The kids learned a little about how eggs turn into a butterfly (metamorphosis). Then we went outside to look for eggs and caterpillars and butterflies in the garden, plus Fiona wanted to look for bees which we found a bunch. After that the kids got to draw a Caterpillar Party picture. Fiona drew flowers for the butterflies to drink the nectar. That was pretty much it, with a little wrap up at the end. We decided to stick around for a bit, even though it was a little warm, to look at the turtle and flowers, and climb on the rocks.

Friday the girls came with me to my work picnic. They both fell asleep on the 15 minute ride to the park that it was at. Even with the short nap they didn't get crabby and had fun playing on the playground with the other kids, chasing bubbles, and eating yummy food. They had some little toys for the kids so Fiona got a hula hoop to bring home and both girls got a little thing of bubbles and a small foam football.
On Tuesday (yesterday) we went to the playground in the morning to meet a friend and her kids to play, then came home to have lunch and headed back out to the Columbus Zoo for the afternoon. It was a little warm, and Ava didn't nap on the drive there (Fiona did), although she did sing a lot while I was driving. We had fun looking at the animals, climbing on the bug playground and statues, riding the carousel, and getting some ice cream. They redid the area with the African (Sahara) animals and it looks like the animals are in the Sahara. It's one big open area where the animals are mixed together, except for the lions (I think). We saw the zebra there - one of the two animals Fiona specifically requested to see. The other was the flamingos. We saw them also near the front of the zoo. Along with all the apes and monkeys, penguins, bears, and other animals. We didn't see the aquarium, just because it was getting to be dinnertime, so we skipped that part, although that would have been the coolest part to see...
Our first stop was the flamingos...and they look bored. But not really, just the picture. Ava just wanted to wander around, but Fiona liked looking at the animals (for a little bit at each area).
She wanted her picture (actually she wanted 3 pictures) with the gorilla statue.
She liked drinking my water until it came out too fast. No harm done, but she got a little upset and a little wet.
I think the bug playground, along with the carousel and ice cream, were Fiona's favorite parts of the zoo.

Well, if you squint you can kind of see the animals. I took the picture from a little farther away, although you could see them fine in person.
They had an old airplane as part of the African scene. People could go inside and lions slept on the outside.
Fiona had fun being the co-pilot.
Ava finally fell asleep about an hour before we left, after no nap all day. There was just too much to see and do.
