Ava at 2

I thought I'd write down a few things going on in Ava's life lately...

Ava is starting to talk more and more.  I taught her to say eyeball the other day...she has a shape toy that has an eyeball drawn on a couple of the pieces.  It's really cute.  She stills says a lot of things that we can't understand, but more and more things are clear and we keep practicing.  For some reason Ava says "si" to mean yes when answering questions.  We're not sure where she picked that up, but she's very consistent.  She also says "I dunno" a lot to answer questions, like "Where's ?"  

She's also learning her colors.  Blue is her favorite and what she says the most, but she is also pretty good at saying and identifying orange, pink and green, and with reminding she gets purple and yellow.  We haven't practiced many others yet.  

Ava has reached a phase now where she will cry, spit and slobber when she doesn't want to try a food.  Usually if we can get her to taste it though she'll like it.  It's worst at suppertime when she's tired.  She is also opinionated in general as to what she wants (or doesn't) and will tell us so - sometimes with words (no!) and other times she'll just flop on the floor (like at the museum the other day when she didn't want to walk).

Ava is still a good sleeper (mostly).  She likes to go to bed and sleeps all night as long as she doesn't lose her paci.  I know eventually we'll have to get rid of it, but we'll give it a few months more still.  She also practices brushing her teeth before bed and some nights gets a bath.  We discovered that she doesn't like bubbles in her bath (cried a lot when she was in them), but likes playing in the bath.  She tolerates me washing her.

Ava is starting to use the little potty.  She will sit on it after a diaper change about half the time and if she has to go pee she'll go in the pot.  She has yet to poop in the potty.  Either the timing hasn't been right or her body isn't comfortable doing so.  But we're (well me especially) are trying not to get expectations too high.  We'll keep offering; she really likes sitting on the potty and gets excited when she goes.

Ava loves her new Minnie Mouse toy and her new Peek-a-boo Bear.  She likes toys that interact with her (Violet, Scout, any toy with music or noise).  She also likes to listen to books and play with Fiona.  In fact, there aren't many toys that she doesn't like, because now that I think about it, she likes blocks and dolls and shape toys also.

Ava is a great hugger and is always happy to see Sean and I after we get home from work (or wherever).  She comes running to the door with a big smile and "Mama!"  In general she's a very happy little girl.

We haven't had her well-child check yet so I'll have to add the stats later.
