First Day of School!

Today was Fiona's first full day of school. They have a staggered start for kindergartners so half of her last started yesterday and the other half started today. Fiona was really excited to ride the bus this morning, and hopped on without hardly looking back. The busdriver motioned her into the front seat with another little girl and they were chatting as the bus pulled away.

The parents came in for an hour in the morning so her teacher could tell us the basics of how she does things and then we did a couple of activities together - cut out pieces for 'Pete the Cat,' made painted handprints, and filled out a Time Capsule sheet. Her Time Capsule said that:

• Her name, age and birthday
• Her best friend is Caitlin
• Her favorite food is yogurt
• Her favorite color is turquoise
• Her favorite animal is a cat
• Her favorite TV show is The Incredibles
• Her favorite activity is art projects
• Her favorite subject is strings (she didn't quite understnad that one)
• She wants to learn how to write better
• She wants to be an artist when she grows up

After that the parents went to the cafeteria where the principal, school counselor and PTO president talked for a bit.

Fiona rode the bus home also; she ran off and gave me a big hug and couldn't wait to see Ava and tell everyone about her day (what she remembered anyways). She learned a turtle clap (it's a one-handed clap), got to visit the nurse because she bumped her head on the playground, read a book and saw a video about a magic (purple) crayon, and got to find all the different colors of Pete the Cat's boots.
