The month started out with a foiled plan to go to the Preschool Skate at Skateworld on the first Friday. They had "unexpected remodeling" so Ava and I went to the mall play area instead and met my friend Heather and her girls there. Gabby is just a couple months older than Ava and Bri is almost 5, but Ava wouldn't play with them or play at all unless I went with her, so instead she stood next to me while I visited and the other kids played. It's been fairly recent that she's started to act this way (although she'll play on playgrounds with Fiona). She got poked by a little boy on the playground (when she was really tired and more sensitive) about a month or so ago so we're not sure that affected her or not.
It rained on Saturday so it was a good day to can tomatoes and make tomato soup to bring over to our friends Nora and Larry's on Saturday night. They have 2 grandgirls just a little older than Fiona so she had a great time playing with them. Ava played with them a little, but was very clingy to me again, so she mostly hung out with the adults while we visited.
It was beautiful on Sunday when we went to a local apple orchard (Tuken's) and picked 20 pounds of apples (for only $20). We also had some of their less-than-stellar ice cream. Grama and Papa went down to Florida to visit Chris, Jen and Caitlin that week so I stayed home on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, Sean stayed home Wednesday, and our neighbor watched Ava on Thursday. I think it's the first time someone other than family watched either of our girls. I also subbed for Carol bowling on Tuesday and we met Daddy for lunch on Friday after a morning run.

Saturday we went winter jacket shopping and got stuff for costumes at Foy's. The weather was great again so the girls played outside a bunch and I made apple cider, applesauce and apple pie to use up some of the apples. We also had Monday off and just did stuff around the house and I ran a 10k with some friends in the evening and then had food and drinks afterwards. It was a fun girls night out. :)
Fiona and I had her field trip on the 13th and on Friday Ava and I had a picnic lunch outside. We all also went to Young's in the afternoon for Sean's work Wingman Day. We got there a little later than everyone else so they were mostly leaving, but we had some ice cream and the girls played in the play area.

It cooled down quite a bit on Friday night (got to/below freezing) so that was the end of the rest of my vegetables. Saturday wasn't too chilly though and dry so we went to check out Fort Ancient. We didn't go through the museum, but did hike a mile or two of trails by the earthworks.
We had Fiona's school conference on Wed night. It was only 15 minutes, but her teacher had great things to say. Fiona's very bright and eager to learn, which we know, but it's nice to hear others say. She knows all her letters and their sounds, can count to 25 and beyond, already knows almost half of the sight words they need to learn for the entire year, and is doing very well socially (listens, kind, prepared, plays with other kids on the playground). We also found also why she visits Mrs. Horney's class (which we try not to giggle when Fiona talks about her); Fiona mentioned it, but wasn't very specific in why. The 4 teachers split up all the kids to have kids at the same level for reading or reading-prep to work together.
They didn't have school on Friday (because of conferences) so they got to wear their costumes on Thursday for their fall party. Parents were invited too, but neither Sean nor I could go so Grama and Ava went instead. Ava didn't want to play with the older kids so she hung out with Grama. Since Fiona was home on Friday, we went to Boonshoft and then carved our pumpkin.
On Halloween we went to the Air Force Museum in the early afternoon; they had a bunch of different tables set up for the kids to learn and make things. Fiona and Ava (with her) each made a glider, we learned about things that float (or don't), tried shooting an air gun, and saw a 3D printer. We also walked all the way to the back of the museum by the rockets, which neither the girls nor I had seen before. Then we got a Dewey's pizza and headed over to Grama and Papa's for dinner and then trick or treating. The girls got so much candy that Fiona decided to stop before we got back to Grama's house because her arm was getting tired from holding her heavy bucket. She even said she had too much candy!
