Staying out of the way while Sean and Bob got the trailer set up
Finding feathers (to fly) and checking out the really windy beach and playground
Marshmallow time!
Sunday, after a yummy breakfast and some time down by the beach, we drove out to Taquamenon Falls, stopping to visit (the inside of) Iroquois Lighthouse on the way. We went to the Lower Falls first and then the Upper Falls. It was possible to get in the river at the Lower Falls so we waded out for awhile. Fiona slipped on the rocks and got a soaked butt (and no change of clothes...nice goin' Mom!), but it didn't really faze her. We got her mostly dried in the bathroom with the hairdryer. :) It was still pretty early when we left there so we drove out to Whitefish Point and saw the outside of the lighthouse, the beach, and the outside of the other buildings. The museum was almost closing by time we got there so we didn't go inside it. After we left we went in search of a whitefish dinner. We found the Silver Creek Grill and Pub, which advertised "Fresh Lake Superior Whitefish," but everything was deep-fried, so Bob had a beer and then we left in search of better food. We found the Bay Mills Casino instead, which also had grilled whitefish and lots of other stuff in their buffet. After the long day we made a quick stop at the local grocery store and then turned in for the night.
The water was a lot calmer in the morning.

Monday was another, shorter, travel day. Before we left though the girls went swimming (and I waded) in the lake, so we didn't leave until late morning/lunchtime. We had to make a stop in Ishpeming to get some glue to fix the roof of the camper; it got scratched up by a tree. We still got in by around dinnertime and then had some fun at Chutes and Ladders until the sun was setting; it was right next to the RV Park.
Ava and I checked out the fog early in the morning while everyone else was in their jammies
They *finally* got to get in the water! It was a little chilly, but not too bad since we were in the bay.

Fiona took this picture of the sunset
Tuesday we spent the day Copper Country Cruisin'. After a leisurely morning and an early lunch, we headed out to Hungarian Falls first, then over to the beach by Gay (Tobacco River Park), then up to Brockway Mountain (which we had to wake the girls to see), then stopped in Copper Harbor for dinner at the Mariner North restaurant, then out to see the Copper Harbor Lighthouse and visit the beach (at Fort Wilkins State Park), then back down 26 to McLain State Park until sunset, then out to Breakers to see the stars. Fiona looked at them for about 30 seconds and then had enough. Ava lasted a little longer, but they both were pretty tired by then since it was around 11 PM. It started raining shortly after we got back on Tuesday and kept raining all night and Wednesday morning.
Middle Falls first
Then Lower Falls, and last was Upper Falls (no pic)
We crossed the stream at the Upper Falls and hiked back to the Middle Falls trail on the other side, with hiking sticks of course.
Tobacco River roadside park
Throwing rocks. There was lots of throwing rocks on this trip.
No idea why this pic turned out like this, but it looks cool.
There was a family (not ours) swimming at the park.
Ava was squatting to get rocks and got a wet skirt. At least we had her swimsuit in the truck this time.
Can you see the rainbow?
It stopped raining sometime Wednesday morning so in the later morning after breakfast and our daily movie we walked over to campus. On our way we got to see the bridge go up and stopped at one of the several coffee shops that opened since we graduated (5th and Elm...really good!) for a coffee and smoothies. Once we got to campus, we visited the ROTC building, went up the 11th floor of the MEEM, and got some Tech apparel at the Campus Store in the MUB. We were going to get lunch there also, but they're renovating it so instead we got some grub from the food truck outside the library. We also visited the library (and didn't see any books!), the new CS building and Fisher Hall. We even snuck into Fisher 135 and Sean told the girls about how he saw me in there freshman year.

It looked pretty much the same, except for new chairs and some big screens hanging down from the ceiling.
The rainy weather continued into Thursday so it was another relaxed movie morning and then we went over to Hancock to tour the Quincy Mine, something I never did while I lived up there. We did the surface tour of the steam house first and then went on the cogwheel train down the hill to go into the 7th level underground. It was really dark inside, so we didn't get any pictures, but the tour was cool (figuratively and literally). They showed the different equipment used and we saw a 2 story strope where the ore had been removed. After the tour we drove by our old houses and snapped pics, went to the SDC to visit that store as well (same stuff, no great steals) and peak in the ice rink for a bit, and then stopped by Walmart for a couple supplies. We also stopped into Roy's Pasties and Bakery to get some yummy treats and coffee; they even had gluten-free options!

On Friday we packed up and headed downstate again. The girls and I walked to Roy's to get more muffins/donuts and a pasty while Sean finished up getting the trailer ready. We stopped for a picnic lunch by Deer Lake roadsite park near Munising and got to Aloha right around dinner time. Once again it was overcast and spittling so we called it an early night.

Our picnic lunch. I was thisclose to posting a picture of my tasty delicious pasty.

I got up early Saturday morning and walked around by the lake and jetty a bit before it started raining (again!). After breakfast and a movie we decided to head up to Macinaw City. We drove through Cheboygan to get there and stopped by a small farmer's market to see if they had eggs (they didn't), but got some cherries and maple cream (never heard of it before) instead. We just walked around Macinaw City, visiting a couple of small parks - all on or near the water, but one had a playground! The girls built some rock stores along the beach along, picking their favorites along with a couple of mine to include in their stores. Then we walked along the shops, stopping in a couple to look and get fudge and souvenirs - smashed pennies for them and a scarf for me. After we got back to the campground, we walked along the lake and the girls and Sean went wading in Mullett Lake.3>
It was a little cool with the breeze and clouds.
Stopped by the Starbucks for some cof-fay!
Fiona took a pic of her animals
Beach time!

We left bright and early Sunday morning to beat the rush on the sanitation station and to head home. We stopped in Ann Arbor in the early afternoon for a late lunch and to pick up Carol for the rest of the drive back. Sean did an awesome job driving the entire trip with the trailer and we didn't drive each other too crazy...although it was definitely nice to be home and out of the truck!3>
