Moab 2012 - Jeepin

Usually we drive our Jeep out to Moab to offroad in, but this year the logistics didn't work out so we rented a Jeep Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to take on the trail.  Carol, Fiona, and I took Wednesday off and hung out with Aunt Dorothy in town.  Sean and Bob went all three days and Uncle Charlie went Tuesday and Wednesday.  We even got Dorothy to go with us on Tuesday!  Tuesday we went on Hell's Revenge (were we saw some dinosaur tracks) and then drove out to the overlook for one of the valleys.  Wednesday they did Cliffhanger (and saw some petroglyphs) and Thursday we went on Flat Iron Mesa.  The weather cooled off for Wednesday and Thursday and the winds started to pick up on Thursday, but all in all in was beautiful weather.

Meeting in the City Market parking lot Tuesday morning.

Dinosaur tracks - near the beginning of Hell's Revenge.

"The boys" rode with Dan and "the girls" rode with Sean.

Following Dan on Hell's Revenge....he even drove one of the hills backwards (since he's done the trail a thousand times and could probably drive it with his eyes closed!).

Some shots of the rental Jeep on Hell's Revenge.  We skipped Hell's Gate since we had Dorothy with us...didn't think she'd like it.

Whoa!

Wearing Grama's hat and sunglasses.  She started "stealing" our sunglasses off our face as she was giving us hugs...tricky!

She fell asleep in the Jeep as we were on the (rugged) trail!  Must be one tired girl.

Family photo overlooking the Colorado River.

Sophia got to go everywhere with Fiona.

Hunting for rocks and sticks.

Look, I found the coolest stick.

The overlook at the end of the drive.

Star!

Put your tire here...Wednesday on Cliffhnanger.

Precision driving!  Don't scratch it, that baby's a rental.

Petroglyphs on the Cliffhanger trail.

Potash plant viewed from the Cliffhanger trail.

That's why it's called Cliffhanger.

Pretty butterfly spotted in town on Wednesday.

Sean with Dan Mick, our trail guide, on Thursday.

Shots of the rental Jeep on Flat Iron Mesa.

Future geologist or archeologist.

Or maybe a future movie star/diva.

Looking at the GPS with Papa at lunch.

Somewhere on the Flat Iron Mesa trail.

Pulling Dan out of a jam.

It fits!  More great driving.

Taking a break on the trail.

The girl loves sticks and rocks...she would pick up different ones pretty much every time we stopped.

Feeding Sophia, her new doll, chocolate bunnies in the Jeep.

She's got a squirt gun (thanks Dan!) and knows how to use it.

Practicing her squirting.  She loved that water bottle...she got pretty good at getting Dan and even got me.

Last obstacle on Flat Iron Mesa.  On the driver's side a big rock, on the passenger's a canyon.

We made it!
