Little Gymnast

Fiona had her first gymnastics class today; I'm not sure who was more excited me or her, but probably her.  It was 45 minutes long, geared for 2 and 3 year olds.  She caught on really quickly on how to do all the different events, so the coach recommended that she move up to the next class (for 3 and 4 year olds) starting next month.  The kids sat in a circle first to stretch to "head, shoulders, knees and toes," which Fiona didn't like because the music was too loud so she just held her hands over her ears the whole time.  Once the music was off, she got right into things.  She swung on the rings (repeatedly), held her chin over a bar, kicked a pad off a beam, did hopscotch type jumping (apart, together), bounced on the trampoline, walked on the ladder, jumped in the pit of soft blocks, and walked on a couple of different balance beams.  There were 5 or 6 other kids in the class, and as one mom put it "it's a bit like herding cats."  I helped Fiona starting about halfway through because she wasn't sure what to do next, but she did a good job listening to the coach and interacting with the other kids.

I think this was her favorite, swinging from one side to the other.

Learning the right way to "forward roll."

She was able to hold herself up for a couple of seconds.

Army crawl (like Ava!)

After a couple of times around, she could stand on one leg and touch her other foot on the colored cone, sometimes needing to hold a hand, but sometimes by herself!

Climbing a horizontal ladder.
