The weekend of Sept 26-27th we went with some friends to an Oktoberfest in Belleville. We went Saturday night so they had a band - Joe Dirt and the Dirty Boy Band - playing some mean classic rocks tunes. Plus they had booths with German food and beer along with the usual fair food. They had rides too but we avoided that area.
The next weekend we went to the Columbia Oktoberfest on Sunday afternoon. They had a (classic rock type) band too, but when we got there the band was on break and the local dancers were on stage. They looked like a riverdance-tap hybrid - the music was definitely bluegrass. This festival was a little more family oriented. Along with the beer and food booths they had some local business and craft booths, games, pumpkin painting, the local fire department had their truck out and the Humane Society had dogs and cats that were SO CUTE waiting to be adopted.
This past weekend Sean's parents came to visit us. We didn't do anything too exciting, we did make a trip out to pick our own pumpkins on a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon. We got to ride on a trailer behind a tractor out to the patch and then walk around to find the perfect pumpkin. They had several great pumpkins that caught our eyes - we ended up picking a medium sized, nicely shaped bright orange one to carve and a small one to draw on. Right now they're outside - we'll wait until it's a little closer to Halloween to carve the bigger one because I'd like to use the meat to make a pie and roast the seeds.
